Pettson tältar – Pettson & Findus Swedish Children's Book by Sven Nordqvist
Description
Join Pettson and Findus for a wonderfully funny outdoor adventure in Pettson tältar, one of Sven Nordqvist’s classic Swedish Pettson & Findus stories.
When Pettson is looking for something in the attic, Findus discovers an old tent. Pettson explains that tents are used when you go hiking and sleep outdoors – and naturally, Findus immediately decides that this is something he absolutely has to try.
Soon they are planning a proper camping trip around the lake, complete with fishing, a tent and everything needed for an adventure. But as usual in the world of Pettson and Findus, things do not go entirely according to plan. The hens want to come too, complications appear, and their grand expedition eventually becomes a rather different kind of camping trip.
Filled with humor, friendship, outdoor adventure and Sven Nordqvist’s famously detailed illustrations, Pettson tältar is a wonderful story for reading together again and again.
Please note: This book is written entirely in Swedish.
Findus Discovers Camping
It all begins when Findus finds Pettson’s old tent in the attic.
When Pettson explains that people take tents with them when they hike in the mountains, Findus is fascinated. Sleeping outside in your own little fabric house sounds like exactly the sort of adventure a cat should experience.
Pettson remembers his own camping adventures and soon the two begin making plans.
They will walk around the lake, go fishing and spend the night in the tent on the other side.
At least, that is the plan.
An Adventure That Doesn't Quite Go to Plan
Anyone familiar with Pettson and Findus knows that even the simplest idea can quickly become complicated.
Before long, the hens discover what Pettson and Findus are doing – and naturally they do not want to miss out on the fun.
Their ambitious camping expedition gradually changes, and in the end Pettson and Findus discover that you do not necessarily need to travel very far to have a proper adventure.
Sometimes a tent in the garden can be exciting enough.
Fishing, Camping & Plenty of Pettson Chaos
Camping is only part of the adventure.
Pettson and Findus also head out fishing and come very close to catching an enormous pike.
Between the tent, the fishing equipment, the hens and Findus' endless enthusiasm, the story is full of the small disasters and wonderfully eccentric moments that make Pettson & Findus books so much fun.
And when neighbor Gustavsson discovers Pettson emerging from a tent the following morning, Pettson makes sure he has a suitably exciting story to tell the neighbors.
Sven Nordqvist's Wonderful Illustrations
As with every classic Pettson & Findus adventure, there is far more happening in the illustrations than just the main story.
Sven Nordqvist's detailed pictures are filled with peculiar objects, tiny creatures, animals, inventions and funny background scenes.
Children can spend just as much time exploring the pictures as listening to the story.
Look closely and you can:
-
Search for hidden little details
-
Spot the mischievous mucklor
-
Explore Pettson's strange inventions
-
Follow what the hens are doing
-
Discover funny things happening in the background
-
Find something new every time the book is opened
This visual richness is one of the reasons Pettson & Findus books are so enjoyable to read repeatedly.
A Story About Adventure Close to Home
One of the lovely ideas behind Pettson tältar is that an adventure does not have to take place far away.
Findus dreams of heading off on a proper expedition, but circumstances bring the adventure much closer to home.
For young children, it is a wonderfully relatable idea.
A tent in the garden, a fishing trip or simply doing something different from usual can feel every bit as exciting as traveling somewhere far away.
The story gently explores:
-
Curiosity
-
Outdoor adventures
-
Imagination
-
Friendship
-
Trying something new
-
Camping
-
Fishing
-
Making the best of changing plans
